Guest Pen Cup #5

I have always said that I can tell everything I need to know about a person with one look in his or her pen cup. (If I never said that before, I am saying it now.) I was going to photograph a pen for the blog when I walked by my wife's desk and wondered what she had in there. It's her desk, I never use it, so any of my pens would have arrived in her cup by theft.

So, let's break it down, 2 pair of scissors, a .7 G2 (meh), 3 sharpies, 4-5 cheap mechanical pencils (one missing a cap) a clicky permanent marker, a wet erase marker and...what the hell?...one of my Hi-Tech-C's... just so you know- that one is now safely back in MY pen cup. You can pass me a kid with a diaper that has passed maximum load capacity and I will gladly share the responsibilities...but come on....a High Tech-C? That just hurts.

I have passed 100 or more pens to my wife saying "try this pen, I think you will like it" which really is code for "I hate this pen, you can have it." but I am not sure where those pens actually go. It could have been worse, I could have found a couple 51's and a Flex nib crinkled up in the bottom. For that I am thankful.

Christmas is coming up, it might be time to upgrade her pen cup. Maybe...

Guest Pen Cup #4

My pens finally get a day off as we have our first sent in Guest pen cup.

My friend Nrepose and fellow pen junkie over at Unposted was crazy enough to send over 2 pictures of his pen cups for me to review. I love this stuff. Yee Haw, let's get started. The Buddha rocks. Buddha says that "A jug fills drop by drop" I say "A Good Pen cup gets filled one pen at a time. "

It's multi-pen heaven here which tells me we are set for "all purpose" and ready for anything that paper might throw at us. Between the stack of 3x5's and the fountain pen ink, there's enough here to handle any situation. I think I have that blue pen in the front and it looks like a nice gold Cross is poking up from the back.

Macgyver would be proud, these two are are just the icing on the well used cake. A nice selection of Sharpies and the VBall RT would be a "go to" for me. Any parent has to appreciate the fathers day mug and cute feet prints in the frame, what's better than that?

What most important is...zooming in... I don't see a single tooth mark. I know from his Flickr page he has a Phileas, but I don't see it in here. Perhaps there's a 3rd cup floating around that I need to see. Good Pens.

Guest Pen Cup #3 (and you will hate me.)

(Deep Breath) OK, So my mother-in-law is a frequent reader to my blog and noticed that I posted a few guest pen cups in the past (going out to a friend or family member and shooting their pens.) Fun idea and it changes things up a bit. I knew she had a cup at her house that at some point I wanted to get to and here it is.

When we all gathered together for Christmas this year, I was a little confused when I opened up a perfectly wrapped box and this cup was sitting in the bottom staring at me. My first reaction was "great, she brought the cup so I can shoot it" then my wife slapped me in the head and let me know it was actually a gift...for me...to keep. (Another.Deep.Breath.)

I haven't done anything other than stare at it for the past month. It's been sitting on my desk like an out of place shiny gem in a pile of old rocks.

I lied...I inked the Meisterstück. I had some burgundy ink that was a perfect match, and there was a Waterman roller ball that is not in the photos that I use as well.

I won't go into the details on each pen. I will use that for my daily posts as I put these into rotation. I don't know if the decision to give this gift was a difficult one or not but I am still trying to figure out how to thank her properly for this. Sometimes putting something in a box and handing it to someone else to keep is much more than a gift. Good Pens.

Guest Pen Cup #2

I am lucky enough that my in laws have an incredible snowy getaway where many weekends and most holidays are spent. The kids have a great little studio area and this pen cup has been a favorite for all. I appreciate the workmanship and craft that went into these pencils. Actual tree branches, trimmed, drilled and filled with crayon then sharpened to a semi serious point. Cool.

The pen cup has large and small pencils along with a stray pencil that looks like it is from Scategories. I am not sure if this was bought as a set with the barrel cup or not, but it works very well together.

Top view. Crayons or not, these rock and if anyone is interested, I will try to find out where these are from and post later. I also had a major ebay score the other day that I am excited to shoot as well. Have a great weekend.

Moonman AKA The Camry

OK,  Camry MIGHT be a little bit of a stretch comparison.   Low cost and will run forever.  The Moonman M2 is a super fun Chines...
