New Good Pens Contest!

Have you ever watched A&E's TV show "Hoarders"? It's scary and freakish. I tend to go in the opposite direction and stay as minimalist as possible with my stuff. However, when it comes to pens...all rules are off. If A& E ever came to my house to start de-cluttering my pens they (and I) would have a serious issue. I would sort of just ball up and shake back and forth until they pried the last ballpoint from my cold dead hands (too far?) So, as I was going through an old desk in my basement this week...I found this box. Here's the deal...I haven't opened it. I did have one note on the box (above) letting me know the contents.

This contest is easy. Leave a comment on this post with the number of pens that you think are in the box. Closest to the correct amount wins. I don't care if you go over or not, just whoever is closest. Winner gets a Prizepack, I have some Uniballs, some fountain pen ink, I might even throw in a fountain pen that I just reviewed and a small journal might find its way in there also. It will be a good one trust me.

Side contest... I know you are not trained monkeys but the post that makes me laugh the most gets a runner up prize.

One clue that might help... the box was kinda heavy. There's not just 2 pens rattling around in there. The contest ends Friday at Midnight Eastern and even my International friends and welcome to enter (even if you are in Assam.)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Oh and I must have dropped some friend links off of the blog roll, if you want to share links let me know and I will get you back in there. Thanks.

Seth

It is good to know I am not the only pen hoarder in the world. I totally agree with you about prying the pens from my cold dead hands....that's just not going to happen. I, too, have a similar box of mystery pens, but I think mine is much smaller. My absolutely uneducated guess is 116.

37. That's my final answer.

Gonna go with 67

Shoot. I thought you were going to say the prize was the whole box of pens and I was going to be so impressed that you wouldn't give them up to a Hoarders intervention-person, but you'd give them to one of you blog readers. That's ok. A prize pack is nice, too. :-) I'll guess 52.

This is a trick question.....all the pens are past their pull date so my guess is zero....

hrms 150.. i thought you were going to say that the prize was the box--- sans pens for the next person to use as their pen box

I'll go with 91, Johnny!!!

There are 113 pens in this box!

It has to be 84. Yes, a collection of pens too cherished to throw away, yet too troublesome to use everyday. Something worth aching for. (>__>) (<__<)

I have boxes of notebooks in my basement...though they're usually the size of packing crates...

I have a desk full of pens, sans the box (mostly because they wouldn't fit in any reasonable sized box, and I would feel shame for that)... so sometimes I throw pens in the back of the closet, behind the desk, inside the paper towel rolls, sticking out of candlesticks.... You know, wherever they will fit so they aren't all together and therefore don't look like.... uh.... a buncha pens...

Therefore, taking into account my extensive knowledge into the collection of never getting rid of any pen I've ever used/owned in my entire life, I think the box contains 133 pens, 2 pencils and a single paperclip. Maybe a rubber band, but the jury is out on that momentarily.

I'm gonna go ahead and say 64. And it's nice to know that people other than me find random boxes filled with bits and pieces in their basements. Last time I just found some sort of blue phone box - not sure where that came from. Weird.

Chances are even worst than winning a modest amount in a lottery. Nonetheless, I put my trust in 97, a largest prime number below 100.

60, a nice round number nobody else guessed yet. See, its round on both ends.

Surfbits said...

I think you have 56 pens in that there box!

Trekkie said...

There are clearly 75.58 pens in that box. The dimensions of the image, if calculated in proportion to real life possibilities indicate that 75.58 is the maximum number of pens it can hold. See, because if it were a full 76 the bottom of the box would break. Thus one of the pens must be almost half out of ink.

Alternatively, there are no pens in the box. My alternate guess is that there is an ingot of gold in there, and it's labeled pens to stave off nosy gold thieves. But it's been so long since you hid it that you forgot about it, and now that you found it you can sell it and have even more money to buy pens. Or you could take half the money from selling it and invest in stock in a pen company, and then use the other half of the money to buy a lot of their pens and drive the stock up so that you'll make more money to use to buy pens in a never-ending cycle of pen-purchasing bliss!!!!

Heavy, you say?
Well, then, obviously there are no pens in there. It's your hamster, which passed away in January and which you were saving to bury when the ground defrosted and forgot about. Don't open the box!
(True story, this)

Just found this blog link on Ink Nouveau, but I know I've been here before - I'd like to guess 93. If, by chance, I do win, I'll explain my wondrous logic then - don't want to give away any secrets!

Aaron said...

I'm gonna go with 250! I think you have a lot in there!!

Ylan said...

385...I counted those in my pen drawer, and then figured, if you are like me, you also have numerous pen drawers, bags, bins...and anyone who uses a shoe box to store pens...well, clearly, it's not just a couple.

Unknown said...

398. And one old sock, just for variety.

Rockslide said...

I going with 270.

Doug said...

217 pens in the shoe box. Two. One. Seven. I'll take my prize pack now.

Okami said...

32 - I'll be honest though - two things I can't understand - 1) how you managed to "misplace" a box of pens (sure sign of the apocalypse) 2) how could you NOT open it the minute you found it? The suspense would kill me :-D

I'm guessing 39. That's my guess. I guess. Guess jeans. Dr. Guess's The Cat In The Hat?. I guess that's a stretch.

I'll say 58 pens!!!

Alright, so this is the way I'm guessing:

I wrote down every single one of the guesses on paper, then put them in order on another paper.

After that, I found the biggest gap in between numbers, which was inbetween 150 and 217, so my guess is:

151

There's probably a lot of pens in there, but I'm hoping it's no more than 183, because then it will be closer to 217, and I can't have that.

Very scientific and dorky, yes...

Yana said...

250...? O.o

Lorelei said...

57 pens.

Ok, I know you're being generous by giving away stuff, but come on, we want to see who won!!!

I mean, I'm ancy here, and checking your site like every 30 minutes for an update.

I can't wait to see the results!!

I like threes, so I'm going to guess 333. That's nothing really - I have have multiple plastic boxes of pens and organizers full of pens and cups and pen cases - all full of pens! Definitely my favorite obsession.
